FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does SVH mean?

SVH stands for: Foundation for Professional Competence in Hospitality.
SVH’s core objective is to increase professional competence in the hospitality industry. Together with partners from hospitality education and business, SVH develops (digital) learning materials and teaching methods for (vocational) education, trainers and entrepreneurs. SVH ensures knowledge by conducting exams and provides insight into the training offerings for the hospitality industry. Is SVH Wine 2 suitable if I know little about wine?

Yes. This course is specifically intended as an entry level. You do not need any prior education. If you mainly want to get “more grip” on wine (instead of just names and facts), this is a good start.

Why should I take an SVH Training?

SVH is an independent organisation and places great value on transparency and reliability. That’s why they have asked the Foundation Examination Board to provide external supervision of all SVH exams.

The Foundation Examination Board is an independent institution that supervises professional qualifying and/or function-oriented exams. The Examination Board has conducted various audits and found that the SVH exams meet the requirements.

This way we ensure that the quality of your SVH certificates and diplomas is additionally guaranteed.

What does E-learning | Game learning involve?

Game learning, that’s learning through entertainment. By offering information and/or skills in game form, we make learning, discovering and experiencing fun. You stay motivated and the knowledge you gain sticks better and is available in your own time. The E-learning│Game Learning contains a unique learning method. The program is built on knowledge, insight and application. It can, therefore, be quite challenging to answer the questions. We do strongly recommend that you first go through the lessons thoroughly before answering the questions.

What is the difference between SVH, SDEN and WSET?

SVH, SDEN and WSET are not training courses but exam levels from three independent organisations. To obtain the right diploma, you must find a recognised trainer who meets your requirements. Because WSET is the largest organisation for wine education worldwide, it is often mistakenly seen as an internationally recognised training. In terms of content, the training lags behind SVH and SDEN, which both have industry recognition and international appeal.

Theoretical and experimental frameworks.
Theoretical and experimental frameworks apply to both SVH and SDEN exams. For SVH exams, a plus applies, meaning extra content on practical applicability. This additional content relates to everything a hospitality employee needs to know about giving good advice to guests and hobbyists at home about wine and food.

Do I have to take an exam with SVH Wine 2?

That depends on how your course is set up on this page. If there is no exam: mention “no exam needed”. If there is an optional exam: mention that clearly (as with Wine 3).

What is the difference between SVH Wine 2 and SVH Wine 3?

In short:

SVH Wine 2 = basic: overview, tasting according to method, recognizing styles, basic areas/grapes/legislation.

SVH Wine 3 = advanced: more depth, broader world knowledge, often a logical step towards further education (such as vinologist).
Are you doubting between 2 and 3? Choose Wine 2 if you do not yet have a solid foundation or if you mainly want to start practically.

Who is SVH Wine 2 most useful for?

Hospitality: better wine advice, more certainty at the table

Retail/supermarket/wine trade: better help and explain to customers

Enthusiasts: more pleasure from tasting, better understand what you like and why
