Recertification requirements for the SVH Register Vinologist/sommelier (rVS®)
WTOL Academy provides unique, accredited further training for qualified SVH Vinologists/Sommeliers. With the ideal mix of online learning and contact education, we bring knowledge and practice together: ‘learning and doing’. For new knowledge and skills to keep you up to date. After obtaining the SVH Vinologist/Sommelier diploma, you will be included in the SVH Register of Vinologists/Sommeliers. You have, after all, proven that you possess an excellent level of knowledge and can taste wine at a professional level. You are also aware of the current developments in both the hospitality and wine industries.
rVS an accredited and registered SVH title.
Through registration in the SVH Register of Vinologists/Sommeliers, you, as a qualified Vinologist/Sommelier, can permanently acquire knowledge and demonstrate that your professional competence is up to standard. You may use the title SVH Registered Vinologist/Sommelier (rVS) for 5 years. You can use rVS as an accredited and registered title, which gives you an outstanding status and recognition in the market. Naturally, a toolkit is available that allows you to use the expressions for your business card, website, and/or brochure, for example.
A source for third parties.
All supplementary and further training activities specially selected for the SVH register are clearly listed in the agenda. Moreover, the register is a source for third parties to find a trained and expert Vinologist/Sommelier.”
Further training categories.
Every SVH Vinologist/Sommelier is expected to obtain 100 training points per five years to be (and remain) listed in the public register. Further training points can also be earned for participating in competitions. There are two categories for training points;
Registration in the register.
The awarding of registration in the SVH Register of Vinologists/Sommeliers takes place according to the training points regulations. According to these regulations, in categories A and B, one training point is equal to one hour of training. Below you will find an explanation of the different categories.
NOTE: When you have obtained a level 4 diploma in another system, you can also be included in the SVH Register of Vinologists/Sommeliers. You must submit a request for this to WTOL Academy (examples of these include Vinologist from the Wine Academy, WSET level 4, Weinakademiker). Send your request to: planning@wtol-academy.nl
Category A. Compulsory subject-specific training.
The training courses and activities are offered by WTOL Academy, which has SVH recognition. These activities can be found in the ‘recertification requirements’ agenda. A minimum of 60 training points per five years must be obtained in this category. The training takes place in an organized context by WTOL Academy. The objective is to broaden and deepen relevant knowledge and skills in the professional field of SVH Vinologist/Sommelier.
Category B. Elective activities
The elective activities from category B are related to the wine and hospitality industry. These do not necessarily have to be offered specifically by WTOL Academy. These elective activities must be approved by the further training committee, who determine in advance how many training points can be obtained. Every SVH Vinologist/Sommelier earns training points for inclusion in the public register.
Further training that focuses on broadening the knowledge and expertise of the vinologist/sommelier from the perspective of wine & food pairing (wine & dine).
This primarily concerns a broadening of practical applicability, so that the vinologist/sommelier can operate and advise in a broader sense within the hospitality industry.
