To retain your registration, you must accumulate a total of 100 training points within five years. As a general rule, one hour of training is equivalent to one training point. The points are divided between Category A and Category B.
Category A comprises accredited professional training courses and activities offered by WTOL Academy that have been accredited by the SVH. These activities can be found in the continuing professional development calendar.
Category B consists of optional activities related to the wine and hospitality sectors. These activities do not have to be offered by WTOL Academy.

A listing in the SVH Register of Vinologists/Sommeliers demonstrates that you have not only obtained a professional wine qualification, but that you continue to broaden and deepen your knowledge and skills thereafter. The registration is valid for five years. By earning sufficient training credits within this period, you can retain your registration and the rVS® title.
The register is intended for professionals who have obtained the SVH Vinologist/Sommelier qualification and can demonstrate that they are continuing to develop their skills within the wine industry.
Have you obtained a Level 4 wine qualification within a different educational system? If so, you may also be eligible for inclusion in the SVH Register of Vinologists and Sommeliers. Examples include: Vinologist from the Wijnacademie, WSET Level 4 and Weinakademiker. To apply, please submit a request to planning@wtol-academy.nl.
Within Category B, you can earn points through various subject-related activities. The activity must be submitted to the continuing professional development committee in advance. The committee will assess whether the activity counts towards your total and how many points will be awarded.
Do you run wine courses or specialist training at knowledge level 4, comparable to the level of a vinologist? You can earn a maximum of 10 training points for this. The application must be submitted to the continuing professional development committee in advance.
Taking part in a wine study trip, wine fair or conference can earn you up to 5 training points. The number of points available for each activity is specified for each year or study trip.
Do you work more than 32 hours a week in the wine or hospitality sector? If so, you can earn up to 10 training points. You must submit proof of your employment to the continuing professional development committee every year.
For writing articles in trade journals, books or other journalistic publications, you will receive 2 points per article, up to a maximum of 10 points. Please send proof of publication to the continuing professional development committee.
For taking part in the SVH Register Vinologist/Sommelier of the Year competition, you will receive 1 training point per round. The winner will also receive 2 extra points.
Other relevant activities may be submitted to the continuing professional development committee for assessment. A maximum of 10 training points per year applies to these.
